Historic Luxury in a Grandiose Yet Comfortable Environment

Dating from the 13th century,  Château de Bagnols located in France’s Beaujolais countryside sits amongst vineyards, forests and green rolling hills.   Discovered by Lady Hamlyn in 1987 in a derelict state,  she painstakingly restored the château, with much energy and vision, to its former glory, revealing Renaissance wall and ceiling paintings, created during the Château’s finest period when nearby Lyon was one of Europe’s great Renaissance cities.

Château de Bagnols today is known as the finest five-star deluxe châteaus in France and regarded by some as the finest vineyard chateau in the world.  You’ll quickly recognize why when you stare at its impressive towers, the original dry-moat, honey-coloured stone,  pierres dorées,  and the dramatic drawbridge entrance.  Each room is meticulously decorated and outside, the sun-facing terrace, shaded by 100-year-old lime trees, provides the most spectacular views of the Beaujolais countryside.

The Wine Trail passes through the nearby local villages. Alternatively, Lyon offers carriage rides and horse riding, ballooning, golf, tennis, and shopping.

Best time to travel
The Beaujolais region enjoys a continental climate. Its winters are cold but dry. Spring is mild, and the summers, from June to September, are warm and sunny.
