Austrian manufacturer KTM has released the new KTM X-BOW GT and this car is an outrageous driving machine. Whether it’s the spectacular looks, sophisticated tech, or its breathtaking performance the KTM X-BOW GT is close to being an epitome of the perfect sports car.
If you’ve never heard of the KTM X-BOW it may be worthwhile to learn a little about the company. It was back in 2008 that KTM presented its interpretation of a super sports car for the 21st century. As their CEO, Stefan Pierer said, “We wanted to take Colin Chapman’s idea of a spartan, lightweight sports car reduced to the bare essentials and transfer it into the new millennium – with as many technological innovations as possible.” And boy did they ever do this!
It took KTM 18 months to produce its street legal sports car with thoroughbred racing technology. Together with Italian sports car manufacturer Dallara, composites experts from Wethje, engine partner Audi, and the team at Kiska Design, they created the KTM X-BOW R, one of the most exciting super sports car of our times. The KTM X-BOW R was designed down to the each detail to be an uncompromising driving machine. To do this KTM removed many of the conventional elements aimed purely at comfort. They dispensed with a roof , a windscreen as well as air-conditioning and entertainment systems and solely focused on the driving experience! The results speaks for themselves.
If looks could kill, the new KTM X-BOW GT is up to the job. The KTM X-BOW GT is an evolution of the X-BOW R with improvements made for comfort and style. The team gave the GT a more muscular and powerful look, added a few more creature comforts such as a windscreen, side windows and doors. In addition with the KTM X-BOW GT you have the option of getting a Soft-Top (“X-TOP”) approved for street use that can be rapidly and easily installed. For your weekend getaway convenience the team at KTM offer a new baggage system with about 50 litres of storage space. Since the company hand makes each KTM, if desired the new KTM X-BOW GT can be individually designed with new colors and stylish PowerParts tuning parts.
If you’re concerned that the team has removed the pedigree, rest assured, they have not. The technical base for the GT is provided by the “R”, with its 2.0 litre TFSI power unit from engine partner Audi and a carbon monocoque found nowhere else in street-legal production car. When you’re in the GT you’ll feel like you’re in your own racing car with fixed Recaro seat shells integrated directly in the carbon monocoque, four-point safety belts from Schroth, a sliding pedal box and the multi-function steering wheel , with adjustable height and depth. Other interior features include an ON/OFF button for starting and stopping the Audi engine, clearly arranged switches for windscreen wiper, screen wash/wipe system, interior ventilation/heating and the windscreen heater.
And performance? The GT’s 2.0 Liter Turbo TFSI engine puts out 280hp, gas a maximum torque of 420 Nm at 3,200 rpm and accelerates from 0-62 mph in just 3.9 seconds. If you are troubled by the windshield, windows and other changes made to the KTM-X BOW, there’s no need to worry ast he KTM X-BOW R without windscreen and with 300 PS strong Audi TFSI turbo engine remains available as does the KTM X-BOW RR, originally designed for racing, which successfully runs the “KTM X-BOW BATTLE” as well as other international racing series.
If sport’s cars and racing is your game, then this is one cool car to have in the driveway. And with a limited production run you’re likely to be the only one in your neighborhood driving this baby.
